Who Are We?
BPS Designs is a small family business run by a few passionate people.
We don’t have a swanky office. We are a fully remote company. That means we can be very competitive with our prices because we don’t have large business rates or rent to pay in a fancy office building!
We started life back in 2001 as a web design company, set up by Ben Snape, the current Managing Director. Back then, the internet was very young. There was no FaceBook, Google was only a baby at 3 years old and websites were very basic, and I mean basic.
Ben created his first-ever website for his dad, Alan, for his architecture practice. Unfortunately, there is no record of this original website anymore (we’d love to show you it for a laugh), it’s long gone but it was pretty bad as far as today’s standards go.
How We Got Here
To be honest, not much happened after Ben created Alan’s website. He managed it and kept it updated, but not much more work came in until something happened around 2005.
A representative from our local swimming club called Ormskirk Otters came to us because they wanted a website and they knew of us and wanted to keep it local.
Ben met with them and over the next week or two, their website was launched. They paid us and we went our separate ways. Now is where the story gets interesting.
A year or so later, they came back to us wanting some more work done on their website. Great, not a problem we thought. We met again and they explained that they wanted their members to be able to log in to the website to manage their data. Then Ben had a lightbulb moment in his head.
As they were explaining the member features they wanted, Ben thought, “hang on, if they want this system, then maybe other swimming clubs would want it as well”. So, we started the very first version of SwimClub Manager and worked with Ormskirk Otters to get the features added, and launched it in 2008.
Our very first Software as a Service (SaaS) product was born.
More SaaS Products
From then on we had the SaaS bug. We created more SaaS systems and currently manage 5. You can read about them on our “our work” page.
To The Future, and Beyond
At the moment, we are happy with our 5 SaaS products and don’t plan on creating any more. However, that may change in the future if and when an opportunity arises!
We are currently marketing our latest product called PlanMan, which is online project management software designed for the UK planning industry.
If you got this far, thank you for reading our story. If you need any help with anything web-related, please get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
