Melton Mowbray Swim Club came to us a couple of months back when they were looking for an easier way to manage their swimming club.

At that time, SwimClub Manager was in it’s eary stages of developement. Luckily, Melton SC saw the potential of SwimClub Manager and worked closely with us to get all the features right that swimming clubs would need to manage their club successfully.

We interviewed Andy Bird, Treasurer of the club. Here are his comments:

Can you tell us a bit about Melton Mowbray Swim Club?
Melton swim club was established in 1964 and celebrated its silver jubilee in 1989. It started initially with 6 swimmer who swam in the local river and now has grown to a member ship of 250 active swimmers.

How did you manage your swim club before you started using SwimClub Manager?
Initially we used a number of standalone databases managed independently by committee members and a huge amount of paper and repetitive data capture particularly in the finance side of the club.

Why did you choose SwimClub Manager for your swimming club?
We reached a point where the administration associated with running the club became a real burden. So we researched the Internet to see if the were any off the shelf packages we could evaluate to eliminate some of the admin. SCM was evaluated but initially did not meet our requirements. However after speaking to SCM we were able to tailor and develop the software to cover almost all aspect of running the club. It has certainly exceeded our initial expectations.

Would you recommend SwimClub Manager to other swimming clubs?
Definitely! I cannot see any reason why they would not jump at the chance of using this software.

What are your future plans for your swimming club?
Develop the competitive side of the club and compete in more gala’s.

Do you have any recommendations for people using other “offline” systems to manage their swimming clubs?
When we evaluated the offline packages we decided they were neither comprehensive enough for our club or useable. One of the reasons we opted for SCM was that it is Internet based. This means that it is accusable from anywhere there is an Internet connection. No need to run individual standalone systems and suffer issues with out of date information. When a swimmers details are updated now it is available real time for all to see. A major improvement!
