Ask.com enter contextual advertising space

The search engine Ask.com are to compete with the likes of Google with a contextual advertising platform. (via)

When you hear news like this, you wonder if they will have any chance against the giants of this marketplace like Google and Yahoo. They have been around for ages, and with their massive advertiser base, will Ask.com even get a look in?

One major difference is that Ask say they will be much more transparent. Stating exactly what publishers revenue shares will be etc.

Another couple of features not available on the other platforms is the ability to set “page yield thresholds” and  “relevancy thresholds”. These are essentially tools to let you decide whether you want higher paying ads to appear or more relevant lower paying ads.

Sounds good on paper but will they be able to steal enough customers from the other major players to make a difference?

I’m not so sure.
