An interesting post caught my eye this morning on TechCrunch. It states that Google, Yahoo and Microsoft have all agreed to use the same sitemaps protocol when indexing websites. This is great news because it makes it easier and possibly quicker to get your websites indexed in a standard way in 3 of the major search engines.
Sitemaps, for those that don’t know, are XML files containing a “sitemap” of all the links to pages within your website. The search engines use the sitemap to index all of the pages in it.
Those using Google Sitemaps now need change nothing, the other two engines will start using your sitemap in their indexes!
