ieWith the recent release of Internet Explorer 8, web designers and developers have a bit of a dilema on their hands. Do we carry on supporting this browser when developing new websites, or do we draw a line in the sand and move on?

After studying our visitor statistics for this website alone, we realise that people still use Internet Explorer 6. In fact, in the last 30 days, just over 20% of our visitors were using it!

Is that too many to ignore? Well it depends. If you have created a very complex website design that uses advanced CSS techniques, then you will probably want to drop support for IE6. Maybe you could detect this browser and put some conditional comments in to tell your visitors that their browsing experience will improve for your site if they upgrade.

However, if your websites don’t use too many advanced techniques, then it may be viable to carry on supporting it.

Have a look through your visitor stats and let us know the percentage of visitors using IE6. You may be surprised!
