My setup at home consists of a Laptop PC running Windows XP Pro, my iMac and a small NAS (network attached storage). Basically a hard drive plugged into my ADSL router.

I have been struggling when trying to connect to my laptop over the network from my iMac. When clicking on the hard disk icon on my desktop then clicking “Network”, sometimes my laptop was listed and sometimes not.

It seems that if I boot my iMac up before my laptop, I struggle to connect them both up.

On a windows pc, you have the Network Neighbourhood icon and you can right click on it and “Search for Computers”. I couldn’t find this on my Mac, until now.

When your “Network” icon is selected, click “Go” in the file menu and select “connect to server”.

Server actually means computer or server by the way.
