Sometimes, in the web design and development industry you’ll come across a client that is a very novice computer user. That happened to me today.

The client in question is having a complete website designed and hosted with bespoke content management system built in.

The hosting obviously comes with email addresses, and here’s where the problem starts. At the moment the client has an AOL email address, and wants to start using his “proper” domain email address. Now this client is a fair distance away from me so I got instructions off the Microsoft website on how to add new email accounts to Outlook Express.

Fairly straight forward I thought, not the case for the client.

It ended up that he didn’t set Outlook Express up properly and hence couldn’t check his email.

Where would you draw the line at your services? Do you go round to the clients premesis and set it up for him or do you not get involved?

Personally I have offered to go and set it up but told him it will be chargeable.

You have to keep the client happy, but also you can’t go over and above your initial quote for no extra money.
